Spa Travel The Lake District

The Lake District is without doubt one of the most beautiful and rugged places to visit in England. The Lakes are a great place for a weekend break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and there are some simply fabulous hotels within the region.

The Lake District is situated in the north west of England and is home to England's largest national park. There are many small yet bustling towns to visit within the area, including Bowness, Keswick and Windermere.

Many people who visit the Lakes will often return time and time again because there is literally so much to see and do in this region.  In the summer months the Lakes are a great place to enjoy the many water sports available, and in the winter months it is an ideal ‘hideaway' location - you will find plenty of cosy pubs with roaring open fires.

If you like enjoying the great outdoors, then holidays in the Lake District are perfect for you! Enjoy a spot of sailing on the lakes - there are twelve of England's largest lakes in this region alone. There are also around 3,500 km of public rights of way in the Lake District so walkers can roam to their heart's content! One thing is for sure, you will need a good pair of walking boots and plenty of stamina for many of the walks around the region. The largest mountain in the Lake District is Scafell Pike and this is popular with serious hikers and more leisurely walkers alike.

After a day lazing on a boat on the lake or wandering through a breathtaking valley, nothing can beat dining in one of the Lake District's many award-winning restaurants. The region prides itself on its local produce and many of its restaurants offer locally sourced meat, fish and vegetables.

If you're after a cosy pub lunch in front of a crackling fire or a Michelin starred gourmet meal, the Lake District caters for all palates and tastes!

There are always plenty of events taking place in the area. In May, the Keswick Jazz festival attracts music aficionados from all over the country while in September the Westmoreland County Agricultural Show attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the region.

Ultimately, if you are looking for relaxation, fun, or simply a great opportunity to get out in the open air and exercise, the Lake District has it all.
