If shopping isn't your thing or you're simply shopped out, why not visit the leafy El Retiro Park and chill out for a while in the fabulous Madrid sunshine?
One thing you simply must make time for while in Madrid is a trip to the capital's excellent art galleries. Madrid simply oozes culture, and the city's art galleries are home to masterpieces by the likes of Goya, Picasso and El Greco. The vast Prado gallery, the Thyssen and the Reinna Sofia are among Europe's best art galleries and well worth a visit.
If you fancy strolling around a wonderful Spanish palace, visit the royal Palacio Real - this palace has more rooms than any other European palace.
Finally, when evening falls, Madrid pulls out all the stops in keeping you entertained. The city offers hundreds of excellent restaurants, lively bars and buzzing nightclubs.
Be prepared to be something of a night owl while on a short break in Madrid as the fabulous nightlife is part of the city's allure. You will find that Madrid restaurants really come alive around nine or ten at night. Visit one of the many tapas bars for a fabulous selection of traditional morsels and nibbles. Then why not take in a few of the vibrant bars? You will find that the city's bars, restaurants and clubs are all quite close together so you can take your pick from a huge range of places and wonder from bar to bar as far into the night as you choose!
