The six long and spacious corridors, starting from the first floor, in the Grand Hotel et des Iles Borromées have through the years been turned into miniature galleries, or more aptly into "gallerie". Use them as a starting-point to enrich your understanding and knowledge of the cultural history of our country. Each galleria has a specific historic theme. The wast wall space on each floor has been divided into panels, or "campiture", each separately and elaborately framed. In these campiture you will find a selection of periods pieces - some perfects reproductions, others great artistic masterpieces, all of a high standard of craftsmanship. Our aim is to give you a taste of works from our country. We do not pretend to have an exhaustive collection not do we pretend to be a museum. Rather the collection and its specific ambience should serve as a stimulus. The fundamental principle is that every traveller of the "Grande Tour" should have the opportunity of encountering the cultural heritage which belongs to our country and so fall under the spell an magic fascination which is Italy.
